Season 5 Character Changes Are Upon Us!

We are still a few months away from the Game of Thrones season 5 premiere but that doesn’t mean the news won’t keep rolling in. But, be forewarned that there may be possible spoilers in this post! You have been warned!

When we last saw Roose Bolton and his army, he was marching to Winterfell with his now-legitimate son, Ramsay, and Theon Greyjoy. Now, a fellow character who was seen briefly with Ramsay last season seems to be getting more screen time for this upcoming season. Do we all remember Myranda (pictured above)? I know I do, we first saw her in season four helping Ramsay hunt down a girl in the woods. I bet she’s starting to sound familiar now. It has now been confirmed that her role will increase from the two episode rank from season 4 to now four episode for season 5. Hey, a jump is a jump, right?

Now, this is where it is getting a tad bit tricky. We have heard that showrunners, D&D, are going to start diverting from the books in the upcoming season and with Myranda’s storyline, we are now seeing how they are going about this. It seems she will be taking over for the role of Jeyne Poole who does not exist on the show but she is Sansa’s childhood best friend in the books.

According to LatinTimes:

Season 5 will feature the Bolton’s marching on Winterfell and attempting to control the territory due to Roose Bolton’s newly appointed Warden of the North title, and though the group is poised for war, they are also making some less bloody political moves. Ramsay Bolton, under the direction of his father Roose, will be ordered to marry Arya Stark, the seemingly last remaining heir of Winterfell.

Now, us fans know that Arya has not been back in Winterfell since season 1 and at the end of season 4, she was heading to Braavos and it seems, at this time, no one has any idea where she is headed. So, how does this configure with the Bolton storyline? Don’t worry, I got you covered.

LatinTimes continues:

This will prompt the Bolton’s to create a fake Arya, in the book series the role of fake Arya Stark and future bride of Ramsay is played reluctantly by Jeyne Poole, although it seems that in the TV series, this deceitful scheme will be played out by Myranda.

Now granted, this makes sense because with Game of Thrones already having one of the largest ensemble casts on television, there was bound to be a few characters cut and combined eventually. I think this will be interesting though. Granted, I was not too crazy about Myranda in season 4 but I am curious as to where they will take her character for the upcoming season. Also, with Myranda technically already being in a relationship with Ramsay, could we maybe see a different side to Ramsay? Hmm, what does everyone else think?

S5 is Set to Have a ‘Huge Amount of Drama’

RTE Ireland caught up with Liam Cunningham who plays the faithful friend of Stannis Baratheon, Davos Seaworth and he had a little to say about the upcoming season.

The actor admits:

We’re about to overtake the books. There’s going to be a huge amount of drama this year. There are people going down. As there are every year. But I’m not going to say who. I’m not going to say when. I can’t!

So, with every other actor on the show, he can only delve so much into what fans will be seeing in season five but with George R.R. Martin only being halfway done with the sixth book, it’s pretty obvious that the show is going to overtake the books and the best part about that is that readers of the books no longer know what’s going to happen. Sorry, but as a fan who hasn’t been able to read all the books, it’s nice to know that everyone will be in the same boat and have no idea what’s happening at times. Call me cruel but it’s true.

However, Cunningham also confirmed that filming will conclude the first week of December and season five will be complete.

Jerome Flynn Confirms Bronn’s Story for S5…Sort Of

Bronn is considered to be one of the most popular characters on Game of Thrones so it comes as no surprise that fans want to know what to expect from the sellsword and friend-for-hire in season 5. When we last saw Bronn in season four, he parted ways with Tyrion and was engaged to be married. However, it seems big changes are coming his way and as fans, we are used to change but what better way to know what changes are coming than to hear from the actor himself?

Well, even though he was unable to say much on the subject other than the fact that it will be ‘very different from my normal kind of environment for Bronn’, we were able to learn how he felt about his character and some of his favorite moments. So, it was still fun!

Showrunners Confirm Bran Will NOT Be In S5

-a98c2a3b-7209-4785-98df-d8405b672dd1

http://moviepilot.com/posts/2014/06/16/game-of-thrones-season-4-finale-spoilers-crossbows-and-toilets-review-1517089?lt_source=external,manual

A few months ago when Kristian Nairn (Hodor) announced that his character and the character of Meera would not return for season 5, Isaac Hempstead-Wright (Bran) did considerable damage control by explaining that he was filming for the show when in fact, his character will not appear in the upcoming season.

D&D have officially confirmed that Bran will not appear in the next season and here is their reasoning as to why:

It made sense to stop where we did. He’s now entering a training period which is going to take quite some time, much of which isn’t particularly cinematic. So rather than being stuck in a cave for a year, we figured it would be interesting to leave him out for a bit.

Now, this makes complete sense when you think of the fact that Bran’s story line reached the end of Dance With Dragons at the end of season 4 whereas other characters are not completely there yet.

D&D had this to say about that:

The fact is, even though we’re making changes to the books and adapting as necessary, we’re trying to keep the various storylines the same as the books and trying to keep them roughly [chronologically] parallel. Last year we caught up to the end of Bran’s storyling [in ‘A Dance With Dragons’]. So, if we pushed him forward this season, then he’s way ahead of where the other characters are

Seems that much thought went into this decision and I’m happy for that. I think it will be odd to not see Bran for an entire season and it definitely will be weird when season 6 airs and Bran is suddenly back BUT, at the same, it gives a sense of ease to the mind because a lot of fans were concerned that the showrunners were going to travel into material that George R.R. Martin has not even published yet.

So, does this really mean Bran won’t be in season 5? His storyline may not progress but the showrunners did reveal they were using flashbacks this season so maybe we can still see Bran in those. -Fingers Crossed-

Daznak’s Pit Stunt Video

First things first, you have to watch the video!

Original Video – More videos at TinyPic

Okay, so this has been by far the coolest thing I’ve seen! Obviously those are trained stunt men but now it’s time to speculate as to what is going on….let’s do this.

So, this scene was filmed for Daznak’s Pit which as I’ve mentioned before is where we will see Daenerys Targaryen for a time this coming season. However, it seems that something is going extremely wrong. With looking at the stunt scene a view times, a conclusion has come into my mind: Drogon has returned and he’s angry!
Drogon is my favorite of the three dragons and as we remember from last season, he disappeared and no one has been able to find him whereas his siblings are currently being locked away from society. Seems like Drogon is a tad bit upset with that news.

However, other than a few photos of the set itself and tons of extras, it is unclear still as to what will completely happen during this scene.

Whatever the case, this makes me 10x more excited for season 5 but you can definitely check out the article HERE and there are a few photos you can look at as well.

Hope everyone enjoyed!

EDIT: Okay, so it seems the video has been removed and I cannot find another one anywhere. I’m assuming it was removed due to potential spoilers. However, if you did not get a chance to see the video, it shows at least 6 stunt actors being set on fire with a flame thrower which sparks the speculation that the scene in question will be showing Drogon’s return. I don’t want to take down this post because it does give some information on upcoming news of the show but if the video resurfaces, I’ll post a new link. Again, I do apologize and I hope you understand 🙂

GoT Info You Have to Know!

In a recent article, posted on a website called hallels, tons of information about the upcoming season was revealed including news about the release date, some updates on the flashbacks D&D said would appear, and even some changes the creators are making to the show. Beware! This may contain spoilers!

Evidently the photo I mentioned a few days ago picturing Daenerys and Tyrion together for the first time is expected to be a scene from the premiere episode.

The author of the article explains:

The “Game of Thrones” book version showed a long narrative on how Tyrion escaped, after killing his father Tywin – his enslavement, the humiliation he had to endure by becoming a dwarf performer and finally how he joined a group of mercenaries.

Not going to lie, this seems like an intense narrative that I would have loved to see played out but it seems show-runners are cutting all this together and jumping right into the Tyrion/Daenerys story line. Have they even met up in the books yet? This may be interesting….

Flashbacks are still going to happen for S5 even though D&D started off the show saying they would never use this technique. They also said that about slow-motion but they have used that at least one or two times in the series. Remember Jon cradling Ygritte when she died? Notice how the characters in the back ground were slowed down a bit? If not, go back and check it out! It makes the scene 10x more emotional! Anywho, back to flashbacks. There are still speculations as to who will be featured in them. It was confirmed some time ago that the show-runners had cast a young Cersei so it seems that she will be the forerunner for these flashbacks. However, some other speculate Tywin returning (you can check out my post about Charles Dance not being completely left out of season 5) and others speculate maybe the return of Ned Stark. Hmmmm…does this mean that Sean Bean will be returning?! O.o

The article has no definite release date as of yet but I have heard rumors of a late March, early April premiere. Much like last year but we do know is that the games will continue in 2015!

So, who is excited for the new season!? Anything that you don’t like about what they are doing? Anything you prefer? I’m curious! As a non-book reader, it is hard to really have an opinion on scenes that will be cut but, at the same time, it would be nice to see some of the key scenes people have talked about/talk about appear on screen. Ah well, beggars can’t be choosers right?

Iron Islands to not be Featured in S5

1000px-203_GreyjoyMen

http://watchersonthewall.com/iron-islands-plot-omitted-game-thrones-season-5/

As we know, filming has been well-documented so far giving fans and insight to Dorne, King’s Landing, and Mereen. However, it has now been clarified that season 5 will be omitting the Iron Islands subplot. Why? Well, Watchers on the Wall found this out through EW:

While the Dorne-based subplot will be in season five, producers have previously indicated the Iron Islands subplot has been omitted. [The producers] said they doing one of them [Dorne or Iron Islands]. Later they announced they were doing Dorne.

This is suggesting that whatever the Iron Islands has in store for fans will have to wait until season 6. So, does this mean we have to wait to find out what happened to Yara after she escaped Dreadfort trying to rescue Theon? Hmmmm….what does everyone else think? Are we happy they are focusing more on Dorne or would some prefer to see the Iron Islands? I, for one, am excited for Dorne so I’ll deal with the omission but I know there are Greyjoy fans out there. Hopefully the decision will be for the best!

GoT Received More Than They Were Bargaining For With Open Casting Call

We, as fans, would know how awesome it would be if we were able to be an extra on Game of Thrones but I don’t think the show-runners know how awesome fans think it would be. In a recent casting call for a pivotal battle scene for the upcoming season, the show-runners asked for 600 extras. However, it seems they received more than they bargained for when 86,000 people applied!

O.O HOLY HECK! SO MANY PEOPLE!

According to The Independent:

Many of the fans hoping to be a part of GoT history needed the money, but one applicant, according to Entertainment Weekly, took holiday from his high-level banking job to feature in the show.

One, I find that awesome because it just shows how far this show has spread but overall, it really makes me wonder how they narrowed it down. I mean, how do you narrow down 86,000 people to 600 people?

Sophie Turner & Gwendoline Christie filming in N. Ireland

Okay, so I’ve been recently focusing on the excitement coming out of Spain but filming is still happening in Northern Ireland. In recent news, it seems that Gwendoline Christie and Sophie Turner have been spotted filming for the upcoming season. However, there are no photos at this point but hopefully there will be some soon.

According to WiCNet:

Gwendoline Christie has been on and off her horse for the last couple of days. No word how Pod’s doing on his horse.

This is really all the information they could give on Gwendoline at the moment so it sounds as if she is traveling but it does make you wonder what happened to Pod since she was traveling with him at the end of last season. However, a small snippet of the article mentioned Oathkeeper which was the sword Jaime gave to Brienne last season. Hopefully we’ll be seeing her kick ass again this season.

As for Sophie Turner, WiCNet had this to say:

Sophie Turner [has] found a weapon and has become ‘Dark Sansa’.

Just that little bit is enough to satisfy me. After her sudden transformation at the end of last season, I’m excited to know what’s going to happen for her. But, it does also bring up the question that since Gwendoline and her having been filming in nearby locations, is it a possibility they may cross paths this coming season? What does everyone think? What do you want to see?

Sand Snakes to appear in S5

In recent weeks, we have found out that Spain would be the filming location for Dorne and now we have received even more news of characters coming out of that location. After Oberyn Martell’s disturbing death last season, we are now being introduced to at least three of his daughters who are referred to as the Sand Snakes.

These characters are originally introduced in the Dance of Dragons novel and they are the illegitimate daughters of Oberyn. Also, just like the North uses ‘Snow’ to represent illegitimacy, Dorne uses ‘Sand’ for the same purpose.

According to International Business Times:

The Sand Snakes will be arriving on the scene in Season 5 as a result of their father’s death at the hands (very literally) of Gregor Clegane. In the books, the daughter’s urge Dorne to declare war in retribution for their father’s death, carrying out secret missions to advance their cause and agitating the people of Dorne. Some of them are eventually imprisoned for their warmongering.

As is their right to be angry over the father’s death, but let’s face it, he did monologue a bit too much during that fight. I mean, did anyone else wish he would stop talking and just kill the mountain? I get that he wanted the Mountain to admit the injustice done to his sister but, goodness, I was freaking out.

Anywho, like stated, three of the daughters have already been cast.
Rosabell Laurenti Sellers will play Tyene Sand, Jessica Henwick will play Nymeria Sand, and Keisha Castle-Hughes will play Obara Sand.

So, what does everyone think? Excited for the Sand Snakes? I think three strong and fierce female characters will be fantastic!
